I switched to Hilton LAX for my airport parking needs after trying out the airport lots, several independent lots, another hotel (Marriot) and some chain lots.
The entrance to the valet/parking area is a little bit hidden but once you know where it is there is no longer a problem. Upon pulling into the valet "tunnel" you may or may not be given directions on where to stop your car. Either way, feel free to put it in park and get out because you will be promptly greeted by the Valet even though it is always busy at the Hilton.
The valets here are efficient and I rarely have to wait more than a few minutes for the return of my car. The tunnel is always busy with shuttles, cars and people but they manage to pull it off.
After getting out of your car, you will simply wait on the cobblestone entryway for the next shuttle to appear. Once it does, it will undoubtedly be filled with new arrivals. The driver will promptly unload all of the passengers bags and then quickly help load new passengers. They often times load the bags based on which airline you will be using so don't be mad if they take someone else's before yours. You will appreciate the organization later.
Once everyone is loaded, the shuttle makes a stop at a neighboring hotel since they are part of a share, but this stop usually doesn't take long.
Honestly, the part of the shuttle that takes the longest is when people bring 2 or 3 or 6 huge bags with them that need to be loaded. There was once a group of 8 or 9 senior citizens that the shuttle was picking up from one of the last terminals (wherever Hawaii airlines is located) and they each had 2 GIANT wheeled bags with them. The driver worked as quickly as he could, shuffling the other bags around and flinging the big bags onto the top racks when necessary... but he seemed exhausted afterward. One of the old people even had the gull to say, "Why does it take so long for the shuttle to get here? We've been waiting nearly 15 damn minutes!" Seriously old guy? It's because of people like you who take too much crap with them on vacation. Okay, enough defending the driver, but they are always so nice and helpful it just makes me mad when people don't realize this fact.
All in all, I haven't found a solid reason to switch parking lots again. As long as this one remains affordable ($50-$60 for a week of valet?.. awesome!) I will continue to use it for all of my LAX needs.
I am always curious whether the valets here expect tips... I mean I just paid a lot of money to have my car sit still for 2-5 days so is a tip necessary? They do a good job so I always give them a little something but nothing over the top. I wonder if they are paid a decent salary or actually rely on the tips handed to them. They are too professional to beg or wait for a tip so I'm just never sure.
